Era il 2011 quando la quattordicenne Rebecca Black, pubblica grazie alla famiglia benestante (aiutata dalla madre, che pagò 4mila dollari per il brano e la produzione del video), una canzoncina trash intitolata Friday. Un brano piuttosto demenziale che la critica nominò come peggiore canzone di sempre. Il videoclip tuttavia, ottenne milioni e milioni di visualizzazioni su Youtube (al momento oltre 62 milioni di views), divenendo uno dei viral video più cliccati del momento. La giovane cantante statunitense da quel momento tuttavia, vide la sua vita cambiare radicalmente, ma non in positivo. Sebbene raggiunse un certo livello di popolarità, da lì in avanti la vita di Rebecca diventò una sorta di incubo. Pensate ad una ragazzina, che culla il sogno di diventare una celebrità, che si ritrova ad essere presa in giro dai compagni di scuola… Per questo motivo la famiglia, decise di ritirarla dalla scuola, facendole impartire lezioni private, ed addirittura assunse una guardia del corpo, al fine di proteggere l’incolumità della figlia, che a sua volta non andando più a scuola, avrebbe avuto più tempo per continuare la sua carriera da cantante, e quindi il sogno di divenire una pop star.diventare una pop star.
In seguito, Rebecca ha rilasciato altri singoli un tantino più maturi: Person of interest (nel 2011), My Moment nel 2012 (viralmente parlando un fallimento), e sempre nel 2012 “In Your Words” e “Sing it”.
In data 7 dicembre 2013, Rebecca ha rilasciato il videoclip di un nuovo singolo che si intitola Saturday; beh, basta leggere il titolo per capire che si tratta proprio del sequel del citato singolo, che tanto le ha cambiato la vita. La clip al momento in cui scrivo, sta impazzando nel web, ottenendo quasi 12 milioni di visualizzazioni. Guardate questo video, ed appena dopo potete leggere il testo in inglese (lyrics).
Obiettivamente, musicalmente parlando, Saturday è la miglior canzone cantata fino ad ora da Rebecca, e il videoclip dimostra una produzione meno casereccia rispetto a Friday, il che gioca indubbiamente a suo favore.
