Drum + Fife (tamburo e fiffaro) è il titolo del terzo singolo degli Smashing Pumpkins estratto dall’album Monuments to an Elegy, il decimo in studio uscito il 9 dicembre 2014.
Dopo i precedenti “Being Beige” e “One and All (We Are)“, la band alternative rock americana ha rilasciato il filmato che accompagna questa canzone, scritta da Billy Corgan che l’ha anche prodotta insieme a Jeff Schroeder e Howard Willing.
Il protagonista, anzi i protagonisti dell’inedito sono ovviamente il tamburo ed il fiffaro, detto anche piffero, ovvero un flauto traverso, in particolare un ottavino privo di tasti, dal suono molto acuto e penetrante, usato prevalentemente dalle bande militari accompagnato da tamburi.
